BUTTONS NOT WORKING?
Malfunctioning
buttons are the most common ailment among aging remotes.
Typically, malfunctioning buttons are caused by a wearing
away of the conductive material on the back of each button.
Without this material, no contact is made with the remote's
circuit board. Eventually, it becomes difficult or impossible
to change channels, adjust volume or perform any number
of remote functions.
SIMPLE CLEANING
BUTTON REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS
1. Remove all batteries.
2. Remove all screws, if present. Some times they are hidden
under stickers.
3. Use a butter knife or a stiff putty knife to pry apart
the top and bottom faces of the remote. You might have to
use more pressure than you think. It should pop open and
not hurt anything.
4. Take note of any switches or loose pieces that must be
replaced during re-assembly.
5. Clean the circuit board with a cotton swab and rubbing
alcohol. Make sure its completely dry before putting back
together. Make sure you get all the residue off.
6. Clean the key pad with a household cleaner or rubbing
alcohol. You can clean it in the sink with a toothbrush
or even the dishwasher works good.
7. Wipe all parts with a cotton cloth and allow to dry thoroughly.
Again make sure there is no residue or water left.
8. Apply a thin coat of the conductive paint with a torn
match (see photo) to the keypad's contacts. They are the
little black circles on the rubber key pad. Do not apply
any paint to the circuit board.
9. Allow to dry for at least 1 hour.
10. Reassemble the remote, grab some chips, hit the couch,
and click away!!!
