Test Your Remote

Having trouble with your remote control?  We’ve all experienced the frustration of sitting down to relax with your favorite show only to discover that your remote doesn’t seem to be doing its job.  By performing this simple test you can find out if your remote is transmitting a signal.

To perform this test you’ll need two things: 1) The remote that you suspect isn’t working; and 2) A digital camera, camcorder, or cell phone camera. Point your camera device at the front of your remote and watch through the device’s digital display as you push any of the remote’s keys.  If your remote is transmitting then you should see the front of your remote light up as you watch on your camera’s display.

The light you see on your camera’s display is not visible to the naked eye.  If you have any doubts, try this test on a remote that you know is working in order to get an idea of what to look for.  If you see your remote light up then it is transmitting properly and the problem is likely located in its corresponding device.
